  • To raise awareness regarding advanced cancer care treatments,Max Hospital, Patparganj and Vaishali organised a 5 KM walkathon under the banner ‘Nidarr Hamesha’ on Sunday.

There was a huge participant turned out which included locals ,doctors, and staff from the hospital. The walkathon was flagged off from Chaudhary Charan Singh University and concluded at Max Medcentre, Meerut. Nidarr Hamesha is a campaign launched by Max Hospital which aims to create awareness, build support for both patients and their care givers in order to fight this disease and educate against common myths associated with it.

“An Advance treatment option over to last decade is a shot in the arm to combat this cancer found in any organ. It is important that the patient is diagnosed early to improve their chances of post treatment recovery and survival rates in the long run. We use a combination of surgical oncology, medical ,radiations therapy  depending on individual cases. During this while a positive outlook towards this disease and its subsequent treatment for the patient as well as its care givers have shown improved quality of life and longevity in most of the cases. People need to be aware that advancements in oncology have made cancer completely treatable. And hence the commencement of the campaign- ‘Nidarr Hamesha’,” said Dr.Meenu Walia, Director-Medical Oncology & Haematology,Max Super Speciality Hospital,Patparganj and Vaishali.

According to the recent data provided by Globacan India 2018, over 11.58 Lakh new cancer cases have been registered in 2018, out of which 51% of cases account for cancer among females and 49% in males. The mortality rate of cancer patients was attributed to 67% in 2018 with over 22.5 Lakh prevalent cases were recorded.

The data also indicates that Indian women suffering from breast cancer tops the list worldwide. But the growing awareness, timely access to medication and the changing paradigms in the field of cancer care has brought down the mortality rate gradually.

“Our Campaign ‘Nidarr Hamesha’ aims to spread awareness amongst masses. Many a times patients arise at late stages of the disease when the cancer has spread to nearby organs as well. At such a stage, though the condition is not completely curable, but the treatment aims to achieve remission( shrinking the tumor proliferation). In such times, care and support from the family and loved ones assures the patients to fight against all the odds,” added Dr. Walia.

Cancer is emerging as a major lifestyle disorder including poor eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, obesity and polluted air & water. The age group for prevalence of cancer has sharply come down from  60 years to less than 40 years.

Max Hospital has been pioneering for ages in the field of oncology treatment. Nidarr Hamesha is one of the unique initiatives to render better quality of life through raising awareness among masses. Timely detection prevents the conversion of palpable lesions into metastatic stages thereby providing enhanced treatment options.
