Hyderabad : CIE@IIITH, also known as CIE (Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), a Department of Science and Technology(DST), Govt. of India approved incubator and Medtech Consortium organized a Medtech Hackathon over the last weekend from June 29 to 1^st July.

The winning Startups are PD Access, Protect I, Physio Life and SADI

PD Access – Personalized monitoring of progress of Parkinson’s disease and response to dosage of the drugs, based on motion tracking technology for major symptoms like tremor, rigidity and others.

Protect I (eye) is an app developed with an objective to bring in behavioural changes by restricting the time one spends on screen. Including a good rewarding system to motivate people to use the app and safeguard their eyes. Long-term plan would be to collaborate with OEM and earn revenues.

Physio Life – A user friendly AI assistant to help with daily yoga or physiotherapy

SADI – Smart dispensary, which ensures authenticated drug delivery and near real-time predictive supply chains.

The prize for the winning startups includes incubation support for 6 months, Cloud credits, Seed Fund Support of INR 5 Lakhs, the opportunity to showcase their startup at CIE Demo Day and be included in the CIE MedTech Community along with a consultation from Sineflex Solutions on market connect and domain expertise.

Out of total 70 registrations received, the top 10 ideas were selected on day one of the hackathon based on a voting system. These 10 ideas were medtech specific. The 10 teams went through different sessions by mentors and practitioners on marketing, business strategy, feasibility study, pricing, budgeting and many more.

On the day of the conclusion on Sunday these 10 teams were made to pitch their groomed-up and better shaped ideas to jury which comprised of a best mix of academia, successful entrepreneur, practitioners from hospitals & investor.

 The 54-hour hackathon was sponsored by Novartis and was executed by CIE@IIITH in conjunction and support from Sineflex Solutions.

The objective of the hackathon was to inspire, encourage and facilitate entrepreneurs to bring their ideas into reality. Participants were given the opportunity to validate their ideas, learn a new skill, meet a cofounder or build a team and launch their startups.

Prof Ramesh Loganathan, COO at IIITH Foundation, Professor Co-Innovation and Head Research Outreach said, “The medtech hackathon is a part of our initiatives to seed new startups, but is very different from supporting startups already created. Good Medtech innovation needs deep med/life sciences insights, strong domain experience, and very good technology. The medtech hackathon was an attempt to get all of these to converge over the weekend, experiment with possible market ideas, get extensive mentoring from medical leaders, doctors, researchers, investors and technologists. And hopefully, some teams will continue on to become a startup. Medtech consortium will help any such startups through incubation, validations, mentoring, investment and field trials”.
