Bengaluru: MG Muthu Group of Companies (MGM), the Rs. 900 crore conglomerate into diversified businesses ranging from logistics, distillery to hospitality, formally announced the launch of their newest acquisition in the city – a boutique business hotel – MGM Mark Whitefield.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Mr MGM Anand, Managing Director of the MGM Group said, “Bangalore is a vibrant city with a climate conducive, both in the literal sense and in business parlance. It was impossible for us at MG Muthu Group of Companies to resist the attractive opportunities in the hospitality segment emerging from Bangalore.”

“Today with over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, MGM Group has charted out a course of action to secure a reigning position in the sector. It was in 1999 that MGM Group brought Marrybrown, the international fast food chain to Chennai. Today with 18 outlets in Chennai alone, and 2 in Bangalore, plans are afoot to open at least 50 outlets across South India in the near future. The MGM Group has also secured licensing rights for the same across South India,” he divulged.

The acquisition and re-launch of MGM Mark Whitefield spells the beginning of MGM’s plans for the city of Bangalore. Bangalore being a key IT sector, MGM Group has recognized the fact that hospitality of international standards in the form of hotels and serviced apartments is the need of the hour. Hence, care is taken that each of the locations chosen are central, competitively priced and manned by well-trained staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ajai Kacker, Vice President, MGM Group said, “Our growth plan will have strong roots in the hospitality sector. Acquisition and rebranding of all properties, present and future is on the cards.”

However, MGM Mark Whitefield is not a first for the MGM group in the hospitality sector in Bangalore. Tranquil Orchards Suites, a set of serviced apartments located in Sadashivnagar was their maiden venture.

Now the group has set its sights on a number of locations and plans to commence projects in the near future. Bangalore with its suburbs and its well planned micro-markets has shown immense potential. The MGM Group has based its plans on the forecast provided by industry experts and trend watchers as well as experience with the MICE segment and Travel and Tourism.

Speaking on the Group’s future plans Mr Anand revealed, “We plan to take the MG Muthu brand of hospitality services to two tier towns in Karnataka, as well as other states – both as owned investments as well as franchise of management services. The MGM Group also has plans to go public with an IPO on the cards within the next few years. We see ourselves in a very positive position by that time and have no doubt on the level of success we are going to achieve.”
