Bengaluru: — Mudrika Foundation for Indian Performing Arts , Bangalore along with Shrutilaya Dance School (Singapore) will be presenting “Trikon – The War Within”, a mega dance/theatre production. The production will be staged on the 8th July, 2011, in Chowdaiah Memorial Hall at 7 PM

This version of Mahabharata is a unique presentation of an age-old story, retold in a meticulously researched, engrossing and seamless reverie of dance and drama which was highly appreciated by the audience, critics and the Singapore media during its premiere in Singapore on January 22, 2011.

Scripted by Smt. Sunita Sharma, the production presents three strong female protagonists in the narrative, the righteous Gandhari, the implacable Kunti and the tempestuous Draupadi. Various flashpoints in the epic are attributed directly or indirectly to the actions of the three queens. Using a mix of Indian dance styles choreographed by Smt Minal Prabhu of Mudrika Foundation and Smt Gayatri Sriram of Shrutilaya, and theatrical direction by Smt. Shalaka Ranadive, the dance drama showcases the epic in a new perspective combining English theatre techniques with live music and Indian classical dance.

In Bangalore, the dance drama will be staging 50 artistes – dancers, theatre actors, musicians and light technicians, both from India and Singapore. Minal Prabhu, Director, Mudrika Foundation says “It has indeed been an exciting opportunity to be associated as choreographer for this unique production. Earlier, with ‘Moksha Mudra’, we had experimented with the blending of two forms of dance – Bharatanatyam and modern contemporary dance. This time, we have tried fusing two different art forms – theatre and dance which involved long sessions with the musicians for composing the music, grueling rehearsals with theatre artists and dancers from and in two countries. The experience has been both challenging and satisfying”.

The production brings forth the eternal philosophical questions examining the paradox of the human condition: “Why do men lust for power? What are the causes of jealousy and hate, of the destructive forces of mankind? What is the mystery behind man’s motivations and his relationship to destiny and choice? Does man have a choice? These questions are addressed from the points of view of three female catalysts in the epic – Kunti, Gaandhari and Draupadi and Lord Krishna.
