  • Mumbai designer wins 2011 Furniture Design Award

    Published on March 19, 2011

Samir Wadekar of Mumbai has won the Singapore Furniture Industries Council’s Furniture Design Award 2011 for his contemporary Liseta Bookcase.  A graduate of Raffles Design Institute, Samir Wadekar received the FDA 2011 Merit Award in the Student’s Category.

The Liseta Bookcase creates a visionary effect of books floating in mid air, enhanced by the use of acrylic to impart uniqueness to the bookcase.  The modern and minimal bookcase has two separate parts and is made of acrylic which is durable and comparatively lighter than glass which makes transportation easier.  The rectangular acrylic slots attached to three surfaces allows room space to house books of varying sizes.

Speaking about his bookcase, Samir Wadekar said, “The design of the Liseta Bookcase is very versatile and it can be modified to house bottles of wine and cans of beer.  The Liseta Bookcase can also be transformed into a coffee table as its stands are detachable.  When flipped over, the Bookcase becomes an instant fish tank!”
