Guwahati : Muri Linggi 40 years from Arunachal conquers Mt Everest.A forty year old mother of four girls Muri Linggi has made the region proud by becoming the third woman from Arunachal Pradesh to conquer Mount Everest – the highest mountain peak in the world. She summitted Mt Everest at 8 am on Monday last. Muri, a peon in the state education department, is said to be extremely dedicated and self-driven and reports say she had to wait out the inclement weather for about a month at the Everest Base Camp to fulfill her dream of unfurling the National Tricolour atop the highest mountain on the planet. Being the mother of four girls, Muri surely is like a brand ambassador for the campaign “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” which she has been seen passionately promoting even at Everest Base Camp. A photograph of her holding a banner with the slogan in Hindi was seen recently. Linggi’s expedition was flagged off from Roing in Lower Dibang Valley on April 5. She reached the base camp on April 20, but she had to bide her time owing to bad weather till 10th May which is when the weather cleared and she re started her summit campaign. Reports say she climbed even at night which is when other climbers usually take breaks. While other climbers take about 5 days to summit, she began climbing at after midnight on 10th May and continued relentlessly, summitting on 14th May morning. Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted a congratulatory message on Thursday. She was also congratulated by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh who posted a message on Twitter.Linggi has earlier conquered smaller peaks like Mount Menthosa (6440 Meters) which is the 2nd highest peak situated at Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh and also Arunachal’s highest peak- the Gorichen Peak(6858 m) recently, in 2017. She is the third woman from Arunachal Pradesh after Tine Mena and Anshu Jemsempa to conquer Mt Everest.
