Myanmar has announced an amnesty for more than 6,300 prisoners. This follows an appeal by the government appointed Human Rights Commissionin Myanmar for the President to free prisoners of conscience. However it is not clear whether amnesty includes political detainees. BBC reports say, that Myanmar is holding more than 2000 political prisoners. In an open letter released yesterday, Myanmar’s National Human Rights Commission chairman Win Mra had called for the release of prisoners of conscience.
