Guwahati : Nagas clearly stated to the British about its sovereignty in 1929 and also in 1946-47. It was clearly stated that Naga will remain an independent nation, and do not wish to join the Dominion of India. Nagalim was not part of the Indian Union at the time ofIndia’s independence. As the Government of India steps up its bid to reach a solution for the long pending ‘Naga issue’, Thuingaleng Muivah, the veteran leader of the NSCN (IM) said that the Nagas are not willing to part compromise on their demand for a separate flag and Constitution, which was a part of the historic Framework Agreement signed in 2015. In a recent interview, the NSCN (IM) top dog said that after an epoch of holding talks, both sides have finally realized the necessity of “sharing with each other.”

Muivah also said that since the Naga people have a unique history and were never under the dominion of India, the solution for the age -old Naga problem must be “unique”. Muivah further added that the sovereignty of Nagas lies with them, and that has also been accepted by the Government of India. But, the Indian Government also has its difficulties, and thus, it has become a matter of negotiating”, he said.
