  • National recognition to Mangaldai Civil Hospital amid Covid crisis

    Mangaldai :: The doctors and medical and non medical staff of Mangaldai Civil Hospital, the nerve of the public sector modern health care facilities amid the battle against the surging second wave of Covid has something to cheer about as the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Government of India has offered the facilities in premier health care institution of the State with National Quality Assurance Certification ( NQAC) . This has been announced in a recent letter to the State Health Department by Vandana Gurmani, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and MD ,NHM .

    Mangaldai Civil Hospital is the only health institution of the State to achieve this feat in the district hospital category. The hospital has been qualified for the honour on the basis of virtual assessment conducted by the empanelled external assessors on March 15 and 16 last . According to the Health Department sources Baksa, Haflong are the two other two district hospitals which were also empanelled for the assessment this time.

    The assessment targeted many important issues covering six different criteria involving separate departments of the hospital including laboratory , labour room, maternity ward , maternity operation theatre , semi neonatal care unit, mortuary, pharmacy, blood bank, general administration etc . Though barring one criteria of individual standard wise score, the institution met all the conditions of the five other criteria and scored 86.52% marks in aggregate, it failed to get the certification unconditionally. ” The certification was offered with conditionality for one year and within this period we are to met the conditions of that criteria where we had marginally fallen short .

    I am very much hopeful that we will be able achieve this with my hardworking team. Nevertheless it is great recognition for us in this trouble torn situation.” said an overwhelming superintendent of the hospital Dr Gopi Nath Bora, while talking to this correspondent . Meanwhile in a message the state office of the NHM ,Assam has congratulated superintendent Dr Bora, hospital administrator Chayanika Dutta, District Programme Manager, NHM ,Darrang, Nayana Parashar and all officers and staff associated with the health institution . It is worth mentionable here that the hospital established in the year 1949, presently running with a total of 308 no of indoor beds. It is offering health care service to 600 / 700 outdoor patients daily on an average.
