Haflong: Commemorating the 69^th foundation day of the oldest council in the entire country, Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, addressed the media on Wednesday at his conference hall, NCHAC.

 

Conveying his gratitude to all the people of this district for their cooperation throughout this crisis faced by the entire world during the pandemic, he stated, “This year for the first time, since the beginning of the council in 1952, we decided not to have any celebration as the nation is facing the threat of this dangerous pandemic of Covid-19 positive cases”

Usually this day is celebrate in a grand way as one of the most important day on calendar, but this year being overshadowed by the corona virus pandemic, CEM Gorlosa expressed his gratitude to those who drafted the constitution of India, esp. keeping in mind the people of every group and section of the entire nation. Taking the name of India’s first Law Minister Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in the drafting of the Indian Constitution, CEM Gorlosa said he is happy that he has an opportunity to serve the people of this district at the capacity of CEM because for this reason.

During his second term as the Chief Executive Member of NCHAC his cabinet team has prioritised five aspects of achievement for the people of Dima Hasao viz. roads, water supply, medical, light connectivity and education.

Every year during monsoon, people specially residing in Haflong and Umrangso face acute shortage of water crisis, he is hopeful that the work he has undertaken under special package and SOPD will help overcome this to certain extend by next year.

Expressing his happiness about the work undertaken during his tenure he is confident that the district will be in a much better position in years to come. With number of schools gradually increased around the district, construction of roads, hospitals various other activities to increase the revenue position of the council, he is hopeful that Dima Hasao is in right track of development.

Mention maybe made about the construction of model Degree College at Dibong, establishment of Horticulture College at Kalachand, four schools under Model Eklavya Residential School, model school at Mahur under MSDP are the achievements in progress to bring new heights in field of education.

Under the PMGSY project, the Mahur – Laisong road in progress is a respite for the people under the Dihamlai Constituency. Other mentions may be made about the double lanning road of Haflong tiniali, Diyungbra to Jatinga route, Umrangso to Khandong road among many others.

Recently the places viz Langting, Diyungbra and Harangajao were also declared as the new town committees.

To mark the day, as a special sign of gratitude to those who have been tirelessly working during the lockdown, on the occasion of the 69^th foundation day, various departments like Medical, Police, DDMA, Dist Administration, DIPRO, Media etc were served with food items and water by the Council.
