  • Nepal’s Prez asks parliament to hold fresh election to choose new PM

    Published on January 27, 2011

Nepal’s President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has asked the parliament to hold a fresh election to choose a new Prime Minister. The move comes as the political parties could not arrive at a consensus to form a government within the dateline set by the President that expired on Tuesday. Following the President’s directive, the Business Advisory Committee of parliament that regulates the election, announced fresh dates for election of the Prime Minister.

The fresh poll will be held next week on February 4, 5 and 6. Earlier on Thursday, the caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal called on the President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav to apprise him of efforts being made by the major parties to form a new government through consensus. AIR Correspondent reports that the latest round of discussions held today among the three major parties – Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) to find a way out to end the current political deadlock on government formation concluded without any agreement.
