  • New age entrepreneurs disrupting the agriculture ecosystem of India

    A major mass of India’s population is still dependent and practicing agriculture as their primary source of income. And this sector still contributes around 15-20% to the national GDP of the country. With the advancement of time and technology, there has been an introduction of new methodologies in the sector. Farmers are provided with modern technologies for the better results of their income.

    Farming in India for a prolonged period of time has been based manually . Thus with the innovations in the agriculture sector things have taken a different direction . The use of artificial intelligence and other techniques have brought in a sustainable income source for farmers . Keeping this ideology in its place there has been a rise of entrepreneurship in the agricultural industry . These  new age entrepreneurs are promoting India’s agriculture with their latest and unique services giving a new shape to Indian agriculture.

    Mr. Amith Agarwal- AgriBazaar –  Founded in 2016, the idea behind AgriBazaar is to deliver tech-enabled future-ready solutions to the farming community in a frictionless manner and revolutionize the way post-harvest management services are processed across the country. It is this vision that empowered AgriBazaar to facilitate INR 9000 crore (GMV) worth of transactions since its inception, making it one of India’s largest online  agri-trading marketplace.

    Shardul Sheth and Sitanshu Sheth- AgroStar-  Founded in 2013, AgroStar offers an online marketplace for farmers to buy agricultural inputs. This agritech startup also helps farmers by providing real-time advice from experts on how to manage their crops and boost their yield. AgroStar has raised $42 million.

    Shashank Kumar and Amrendra Singh – DeHaat– Founded  in 2012, DeHaat offers agricultural services like access to agricultural inputs like seeds and fertilizers at affordable prices, personalized assistance, soil testing, weather reports, micro-finance, and insurance. DeHaat has raised $19.3 million to help Indian farmers.

    Krishna Kumar and Kunal Prasad – CropIn Technology- Founded  in 2010, CropIn provides a one-stop SaaS-based solutions platform enabling agribusinesses to increase efficiency, productivity and sustainability. Its platform offers real-time weather updates, ability to manage farm activities, and predicts crop yields to minimize risk and yield better produce.

    Amit Sinha & Ashok Prasad – Unnati – Unnati, conceptualized and co-founded by Mr Amit Sinha & Mr Ashok Prasad, is a fintech based Agri platform which aims to minimize the risks in farming and ensure much-needed transparency in the farming business. Unnati’s founders recognised the difficulties farmers experience as a result of farming’s lack of predictability and regular access to production inputs and information. Their objective to connect farmers to a single digital platform that supports farm entrepreneurship has been their driving force, resulting in the development of a complete ecosystem for farm entrepreneurs. From Unnati financial services to crop-specific consultancy, the brand works with farmers at every stage of the farming life cycle to ensure a sustainable future.
