New Covid-19 Restrictions Lead to the Postponement of Belgian Poker Challenge

The increasing number of COVID-19 vaccination and the relatively stable confirmed cases has helped the gambling industry to steadily recover from the harsh impact of the pandemic. However, with the rise in the number of confirmed cases after the summer, many countries are putting restrictions in place again.

This has led to the postponement of another annual poker event, the 2021 Belgian Poker Challenge. According to the organizer of the event, the 2021 Belgian Poker Challenge has been postponed to 2022 but the new date for the event is yet to be confirmed.

Suffice to mention that during the initial phases of the lockdown across the world, physical casino tournaments were suspended and gamblers have turned to real money mobile casinos in their stead. The different tournaments, including the Belgian Poker Challenge, are supposed to be the start of the come-back for brick-and-mortar casinos after the pandemic.

When is the Original Timeframe for the Belgian Poker Challenge?

The Belgian Poker Challenge is an annual series of poker events that was slated to take place on December 9 all through to December 19, 2021. This event is scheduled to feature multiple events but unfortunately, the organizers are forced to postpone the event due to new confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

It is of interest to note that this announcement came after just last week when another major casino game tournament was postponed. PokerStars had earlier announced its plans for the launch of the ETP Prague scheduled to take place on December 8.

However, just last week, the company announced its decision to postpone the event due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the Czech Republic.

The implication of the Different Postponement for the Gambling Community

With Belgium putting new restrictions in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus, other nations of the world are also watching. Within a few weeks, two major casino game events have been postponed due to the pandemic.

If the number of confirmed cases continues to rise, more game events would be canceled or postponed and gamblers would have to return to the online platform again.

The Casino and Gambling Terrain as of Today

Currently, the bulk of casino players and punters generally are focused on online and mobile games. Although the game industry, in general, is growing and experiencing a boom, brick-and-mortar casinos are taking the brunt of the situation.

If more restrictions are put in place and stricter measures are rolled out, physical casino sites are likely to be shut down again until the worst brews over. This will significantly affect the industry and operators. It is not surprising, therefore, that forward-thinking brick-and-mortar casino operators have already established a presence for themselves on the online platform.

For this group of casino operators, the effect of the restrictions on physical casinos would be minimal because they have an online platform to rely on for customers and revenue generation. The world is waiting and so is the gambling community to see the worst of the pandemic over.
