  • New Education Policy will help create an India-centered education system: VP Venkaiah Naidu

    Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has said, the New Education Policy currently being finalized will help create an India-centered education system. He was addressing at the 150th birth anniversary celebration of prominent philanthropist and educationist Sri Calavala Cunnan Chetty in Chennai this morning.

    Mr Naidu said, the Policy would facilitate transforming the nation into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, providing high-quality education to all.

    He said, making one’s mother tongue as the medium of instruction till the fifth standard, as insisted in the draft policy, will help young minds to grasp concepts easily. He advocated recruiting more number of Indian language teachers wherever possible.

    The Vice President said schools should be resource centres for local community. He asked students to do community work and provide solutions to issues like social and gender justice, family health, cleanliness, environment protection and preservation of natural resources.

    Mr Venkaiah Naidu welcomed the call made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address, to do away with single-use plastics. He appealed to citizens to support it and clean local communities of littered plastics.
