The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Women and Child Development Ministry and Police Commissioners of Ludhiana and Delhi on the report of sale of a new born baby through a deal struck on social networking site Facebook. Taking a suo motu cognizance of media reports, the Commission asked them to submit reports within four weeks in this regard.

The baby born on 3rd of this month in Ludhiana was sold three times in ten days, first by his maternal grandfather and the last by an unidentified person to a Delhi based businessman through Facebook before he was rescued. Reportedly, a police team raided the house of the businessman and found that the child was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the National Capital. He has been handed over to his mother.
