  • NIE’s team emerges champs at Hackathon by WEIR Tech Meraki 2019

    Mysore: The team from National Institute of Engineering, Mysore (NIE) emerged winners of a hackathon organised by Skillena, the Bangalore-based company which is a challenge and peer learning platform
    The three-member team included Vrushank V, Shravan and Ramprasad Naik from the Computer Sciences Engineering department.
    Smart Factory Initiative by WEIR EnSci: Tech Meraki: Engineer The Future is aimed to bring students with path breaking ideas and later turn them into working prototype. The theme of the hackathon was ‘Engineer the future: ideate, innovate and bring your ideas to life’
    The Skillenza’s platform had 450+ registrations from various institutions. The first task was to form teams with 3 members. The second phase included submission of ideas, where 7 teams were selected based on their presentation of innovative ideas. Out of the 7 teams, 4 teams were from The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore. Later the teams were offered an internship to develop a PoC/working prototype of the ideas.
    In the finals, working prototype of the proposals were presented to the judges and intensive questions were asked about the same. The top 7 teams were awarded 20,000Rs and the 2 winning teams (one from NIE) were awarded an extra 40,000 (total of 60,000).
    Based on the idea presented, performance of team members and corresponding discussions Mr Ghanashyam katti and Adith Bharadwaj BC were awarded 6months paid internships.
    Expressing their delight over winning the competition, Vrushank V said, “Internship at Weir EnSci was a great experience as we learned a lot of new technologies and practical applications while we worked on our project. With constant support from our mentors and motivation from Weir team, we could pull off a great project. Winning the Hackathon, in the end, was indeed a really great feeling for us, this motivated and instilled confidence in us to strive for more excellence in the future.”
    Mr Ghanashyam Katti speaking about landing up in a paid internship said, “This time we decided to build a project a little outside of our field mainly to gain experience and exposure of all the tech out there. We put in a lot of thought for our idea, experiments & presentation and were really happy to see that they were well received. It felt good when our hard work was rewarded as WEIR offered us a 6 month paid internship in their company. We learned a lot and are currently enjoying our journey thoroughly.”
