  • NIIT NGuru launches Math-e-magician Challenge Series at Delhi Public School, Bangalore

    Bangalore : NIIT Limited, leading Global Talent Development Corporation and Asia’s largest IT Trainer, announced the launch of the “NIIT NGuru Math-e-magician Challenge Series”, an inter school quiz competition. The first competition of the series was held at Delhi Public School, Bangalore on February 2, 2013. This unique initiative by NIIT aims at bringing elements of fun, excitement and creativity through the spirit of competition in the difficult subject of Mathematics. The objective of the event is to encourage the exposure to practical approach to Mathematics and to make the students implement the philosophy of imagine, investigate and interact.

    Organized under the aegis of NIIT NGuru, the Math-e-magician Challenge Series was inaugurated by Prof G Ravindra, Former Joint Director, NCERT. Also present on the occasion were Prof N M Rao, Retd Faculty of Mathematics, Regional Institute of education, Mysore. The contest combined the best elements of competitive problem solving test and quiz to bring out the excitement and creativity of mathematics amongst participants. Almost 100 students from classes 6th to 10th and enthusiastic teachers from 18 leading schools of Bangalore participated in the contest.

    Prof G Ravindra, Former Joint Director, NCERT said, “I am delighted at the overwhelming response to the series and hope to be a part of many such contests across India in the years to come. NIIT NGuru Math-e-magician Challenge Series is a commendable effort designed to learn maths in research mode for children and find application of mathematical problems in real life.”

    Mrs Vaidehi Raman, Head of the Department, Mathematics Delhi Public School said “NIIT Math quiz has generated a lot of enthusiasm in learning Math and has motivated the students in improving their analytical skills and reasoning ability.”

    Leading schools from Bangalore participated in this innovative Math contest- Ryan International School, Kundanhalli, Delhi Public School, Bangalore East, Delhi Public School, Bangalore South, Silicon City Academy, Carmel School, Freedom International, Bangalore International Academy, RMS International School, Aryan Presidency School, Sunmarg Central School, Nobel School, Sharda Vidyaniketan, Bangalore International Public School, DPS North, DPS East and Innsfree House School.

    The participants were divided into two categories:  Middle category – from classes 6th to 8th; and Senior category – from Classes 9th and 10th. The participants went through an elimination stage followed by 2 rounds of written tests in mental and scholastic abilities. The combined scores of all the members determined the finalists and the highest scorers moved to the final Challenge Me round.

I am confident that this series will enable development of young minds and make them more interested in math.”

    After an exciting contest Ryan International School, Kundanhalli emerged as winner while Delhi Public School, Bangalore East was declared runner’s up in the Middle category. In the Senior category Delhi Public School, Bangalore, South emerged as winner while Silicon City Academy, Bangalore was declared the runner up. The trophy was presented to beaming winners by Prof. G Ravindra and Prof. N M Rao.
