There’s no question that tile is the best selection for a spa room.  Durable, long lasting, and able to handle the moisture, tile is the best choice.

As you choose your spa room tile here’s a few things to keep in mind:

The important aspect of choosing your spa room tile is the ambience delivered. You’ll want the colors to be relaxing and fun.  Consider the tone and complimentary colors carefully to make sure your spa does just what’s intended.

Of course, you’ll match color and texture to your architectural style.  Why not go a bit further and consider a mosaic, or other structured design for laying your tile.

You can find many pre-designed formats or you can create your own.  Since you’re working with tile, it’s not difficult to cut and format almost any type of design.

The floor of your spa bathroom will occupy a significant portion of your field of view, so be sure to spend the extra time picking flooring that works with the rest of your motif. The two most popular materials to be used in spa bathroom floor construction are ceramic tiles and laminate wood flooring.

The material must be chosen not only for its aesthetics, but also for its durability and slip resistance, which is extremely important in a wet and slippery area such as a Spa. The color palette of the tile must be kept light, to reflect a natural environment. Additionally, the neutral tones of the tiles bring a soothing feel to the spa, providing a relaxing atmosphere where patrons can unwind. The overall design of the spa must be inviting and relaxing. While the soft shades of ceramic tile enhance the comfortable feel, their durability and slip resistance are crucial in ensuring safety.

“Ceramic” comes from the Greek term Keramos which means “a potter” or “pottery”

Since the infancy of ceramics, up to this very day, the process is still very much the same; for the creation of all ceramic materials, one needs to bake a mixture of clays at a very high temperature.

A ceramic tile, therefore, is the resulting product, after a mixture of clays have been treated appropriately, pressed, fired at a high temperature and cut to size. A ceramic tile consists of two parts: the body, which is called the “bisque” and the surface, which is called the “glaze”.

Ceramic tile is available in a wide variety of sizes, textures and colors, just be sure to stick to a neutral color that accents your wall color. If you have dark walls, choose a lighter colored floor or vice versa. Laminate wood flooring, although less exotic looking than its natural hardwood counterpart is better for a bathroom because natural hardwood tends to expand and contract more with temperature and humidity. It addition, it will absorb more water than comparable manufactured flooring such as laminate. If your budget allows for it, you may also consider natural stone flooring such as marble or travertine. Whatever you do, please do not use vinyl flooring, it may be more cost effective to do so but it definitely will be reflected in the end result.
