     Bengaluru: On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Novo Nordisk Education Foundation, a non-government organisation set up by Novo Nordisk India Pvt. Ltd., along with Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology & Research, Bangalore organised an event involving families of children with Type 1 Diabetes and motivational speakers, to celebrate, today.

    The event was flagged off with an energetic cycling session by the dignitaries and the children living with Type 1 Diabetes to celebrate their relentless journey, despite various challenges the disease poses. The audience were captivated with beautiful song recitations, graceful classical dance performances and instruments such as the violin and cojon played by children. The second part of the event was an interactive and encouraging session by a dynamic panel including Dr Ravi K- Director, KIER; Dr Santhosh Olety- Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, KIER; Brais Dacal- international cycling athlete from Spain; Mr Vikrant Shrotriya- Managing Trustee, Novo Nordisk Education Foundation; and Mr John Dawber- CVP & MD, Novo Nordisk Global Business Services.

    The dignitaries addressed the gathering to inspire them on their diabetes journey and life beyond the disease. Brais shared his life experiences and challenges as a person with T1D who was diagnosed at the age of seven years, about how he turned his passion for cycling into his life, despite living with the disease. Leaders including Vikrant, John, Dr Santhosh, and Dr Ravi also emphasized on the immediate need for understanding the gravity of T1D in India and inspired parents and children towards defeating this disease with improved access to care.
