  • On World Environment Day 2022, Assam Chief Minister Himanta urges people to protect the environment

     GUWAHATI : On World Environment Day 2022, Assam Himanta Biswa said that it has become necessary to protect our environment to meet the challenges posed by climate change. “On WorldEnvironmentDay 2022, I reaffirm our government’s commitment to the protection of our environment and urge everyone to do their own or their own thing for this.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said it was a historic step towards environmental protection and the newly announced national park would be another attempt by the state to protect its rich flora and fauna.

    The notification declaring Raimona as a national park has been issued by the Department of Environment and Forests on Saturday. He has informed that the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, says that whenever it appears to the state government that an area, whether within the sanctuary or not, is necessary because of its ecological, fauna, floral, geomorphology or zoological union or importance. To be formed as a national park for the purpose of protecting, propagating or developing wildlife or its environment, Assam has the other five national parks- Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa.Sarma said it was a step towards fulfilling the UN vision of ecosystem restoration. Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya said the announcement made by the chief minister has proved to be a red letter day for the state and is a welcome news for wildlife lovers, nature lovers and conservationists.
