  • Over Rs 90 crore grant for govt mental institutes, hosps

    The Union ministry of Health and Family welfare has released a grant of over Rs 90 crore for improving infrastructure in government mental hospitals and institutes.

    “The government has released a total of Rs 90.82 crore as financial assistance to strengthen 19 mental hospitals and institutes across the country,” a health ministry official said.

    He said this assistance was given to implement the National Mental Health Programme.

    This amount comprises grants over Rs five crore each to nine centres in Agra, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Cuttack and Kozhikode.

    A grant of over Rs one crore each has been given to three mental hospitals and institutes to strengthen their departments of psychiatry, clinical psychology, psychiatric social working and psychiatric nursing.

    They include CSM Medical University in Lucknow, Ranchi Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences and LGB Regional Institute at Tezpur, the official said.
