  • Pandit Ravi Shankar’s 95th birthday was celebrated with much fanfare at The Ravi Shankar Centre, New Delhi

    The Ravi Shankar Centre, New Delhi brightened up with a music and dance festival on account Ravishander 95thof Pandit Ravi Shankar’s Birthday on 7th & 8th April with performances by various artists mentioned below:

    7th April, 2015:

    • Senior disciples of Pandit Ravi Shankar performed their offerings to their Guru

    • Sanjeev & Ashwani (Shehnai) – Anand Shanakar on Tabla

    • Parimal Sadaphal (Sitar) accompanied by Vinod Lele on Tabla

    • Barun Kumar Pal (Hansa Venna). This instrument was unveiled by Pandit Ravi Shankar at a ceremony organized in Delhi at his place on his 80th birthday, is an evolution of the Indian classical guitar. Same evening, the launching of the Hansa Veena was done by his senior disciple BarunKumar Pal

    8th April, 2015:

    • Bharatnatyam Performance by Rashmi Khanna

    • Flute recital by Ajay Prasanna, accompanied by Athar Hussain on Tabla.

    The maestro’s birthday saw a 100 plus audience on both days which was a proud moment for every music lover. More so, his birthday was not only being celebrated here in India but also in London, UK and Cleveland, US.

    He is the only Indian in the world to have been conferred with 18 DOCTORATES, THE KNIGHTHOOD FROM BRITAIN, THE FRENCH LEGION OF HONNEUR, THE POLAR MUSIC PRIZE, THE PRAEMIUM IMPIRIALE FROM JAPAN, THE PRESTIGIOUS BAHART RATNA AND SEVERAL prestigious awards for his contribution to the world of music and culture. He is also a FIVE TIME winner of the Grammy Award INCLUDING A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT. His music and legacy will keep playing and motivating generations to come.

     Keeping his musical roots alive, the Shankar family will fly down to Mumbai this WINTER, 2015 to share some great stories about the wonderful musician and walk down memory lane which was rich and prosperous.
