Parl makes efforts to promote women for active participation in public life: Sumitra Mahajan

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today said the Indian Parliament is making consistent efforts to promote women for their active participation in public life involving policy making, legislature and executive.

Participating as Chief Guest at the valedictory programme of the three-day National Women’s Parliament at the holy confluence of Rivers Krishna and Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, Ms. Mahajan said for achieving millennium development goals and sustainable development goals, participation of women is necessary. She opined that for a resurgent India, participation of women in legislature is a must.

Comparing woman to welfare, Ms. Mahajan said women of today are change makers in the global affairs. She said a woman is never particular about equality but she has to be there in the driving seat to navigate a family to safer shores as she is a good manager.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that women who are more than 50 per cent of the country’s population should be economically stronger and self dependent.

He advocated equal opportunities for women in society on equal footing with that of their male counterparts in all walks of life which will guarantee self-esteem and dignity of life to women.
