  • Parliament approves Cr. P.C. Amendment Bill 2010

    The Parliament has passed the Code of Criminal Procedure, Amendment bill 2010. This bill will make mandatory for a Police Officer to record the reason for which a person has been arrested or not arrested in cases punishable for less than seven years or up to seven years.

    Replying to the debate in Rajya Sabha yesterday, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said that the bill will ensure that a person is arrested if he fail to identify himself and refuse to cooperate in investigation of a crime. The Home Minister also assured the House that a Comprehensive Bill to amend the CrPC which has become 37 years old will be brought in next one year to make it suitable to changed scenario of crimes.
