     The two day World Environment Day celebration by the Assam Pollution Control Board’s ( PCB ) , Tezpur regional office in association with Mangaldai United Club and SRD Group has ended here in the Mangaldai Town Girls’ HS School ( MTGHSS) on Sunday afternoon. The celebration featured variety of programmes like drawing competitions among students for three different age groups, exhibition of SHGs, felicitation to organizations and individuals working for nature conservation and seminar.

    Addressing the seminar and the prize distribution ceremony on the final day as a resource person on the theme ” Only One Earth ‘ , Dr Kamala Kanta Bora, Principal, Mangaldai College highlighted how our earth has been taking the burden of around 7.8 billion population which almost equivalent to the capacity of almost two earths. He subsequently explained why it is need of the hour to take care of this earth without which human being or other living beings hardly could survive long in it . Participating in the seminar as a guest speaker prominent entrepreneur Anupam Deka underlined the emerging practice of green energy in the industrial sector in stead of energy generated from burning of coals. Dr Budhin Hazarika, retired Principal, Kharupetia College , Nirmali Devi Sharma, Chairperson, Mangaldai Municipal Board, Biren Medhi, President, United Club and Mukul Ch Deka of SRD Group also spoke on the occasion while it’s, objectives was explained by Jayanta Sahariah, the Regional Officer of PCB ,Tezpur office. The guests also distributed trophies and certificates to the winners of drawing competitions. Earlier it began with a chorus presented by the students of MTGHSS especially composed on the theme of the celebration.
