Although the COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on the entire football ecosystem, causing massive drops in clubs’ revenues and their players’ market value, some footballers still witnessed their values surge since the mid-2020.

According to data presented by 123scommesse.it, the combined market value of Pedri, Marcos Llorente, and Florian Wirtz, as the biggest gainers in the 2020/2021 season, jumped by €161.8 million.

Pedri’s Market Value Soared by 872% in a Year, the Biggest Increase Among All Players

The last year and a half were life-changing for Spanish midfielder Pedri. In August 2019, he made his first-team debut with second-division side Las Palmas at the age of only 16. Last month, he represented his country for the first time at the senior level.

The sudden breakthrough of the 18-year-old player at Las Palmas instantly attracted the attention of Barcelona’s scouts. Before the transfer window closed, Barça signed him up and loaned him back to his home club, which was the start of his meteoric rise.

In September 2019, the market value of the talented attacking midfielder stood at €5 million, revealed the TransferMarkt data. In April 2020, his valuation slightly increased to €7.2 million. However, by the end of the last year, this figure jumped to €30 million and continued rising. Last month, Pedri’s market value jumped to €70 million, 872% more than a year ago, which is the most significant increase among all players in the 2020/2021 season.

Llorente’s Value Jumped by €54 Million, Florian Wirtz Follows With a €45M Increase

Atletico Madrid’s central midfielder, Marcos Llorente, has witnessed the second-largest market value increase this season. The 26-year-old has been a key man in Atletico’s surge to the top of La Liga, scoring 12 goals this season and playing in every Liga and Champions League match.

Last month, a transfer story emerged that Manchester United made an incredible £70 million bid for the talented footballer.

In April 2020, Llorente’s market value stood at €16 million. Statistics show this figure quadrupled and hit €70 million last month.

The TransferMarkt data show the 17-year-old Florian Wirtz witnessed the third-largest market value increase in the 2020/2021 season. In July 2020, Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking midfielder was worth €10 million. Since then, his valuation jumped by €45 million, reaching €55 million last month.
