  • Pixion shatters CGI glass for Samsung Commercial

    Published on June 18, 2011

Mumbai:  The ad was shot against chroma and the set extensions were executed by Pixion. It took around two weeks to complete the project with the final touch. The team found it challenging to showcase the dynamics of the shattered glass and also the way the glass appeared since the ad film was all about bright colored LED technology.

Pixion informs that a lot of research was done to get the dynamics and the shaders right for the glass, testing glass references to see how they behave in light and the way they shatter, particularly the stained glass. Minute work, in one of the shots that casts caustics on the man’s face, every such detail was taken into account including the detail of the broken glass.

Viral Thakkar, CGI Head and VFX Supervisor, Pixion, speaking about the Samsung commercial and the VFX techniques says, “This ad film is an excellent example of how Visual effects can be put to use in commercials. It is a combination of CGI, matte painting and compositing. Pixion was initially assigned the task of creating the city skylines in the film. The scope of work grew as the film progressed in stages”.

“The film was broken down from the visual effects point of view. After the shoot Pixion had to go ahead and create the shattered glass as the real glass did not give the kind of effect the agency required. The building from which the man jumps was also generated in 3D. Ads have been using VFX from the very early stages but the progress that has been seen in recent times is spectacular”, Viral concluded.

The ad is currently on air and is mostly showcased on most of the channels like Colors, Set Max and other major General Entertainment Channels.
