New Delhi: Placements at Delhi Technological University (DTU), have reached a new height with the University crossing its last year mark of 683 job offers with 800 job offers received this year. In 2009-10 academic session, total 138 companies had visited DTU campus and made 683 job offers to approx. 460 eligible candidates, in the placement season which went on till June 2010, whereas in 2008-09, total 620 job offers were received by DTU students. For the 2010-11 session, 144 companies have already visited the DTU campus and made 800 job offers to about 500 eligible students (placements are likely to go on for two more months at DTU). This further implies that about 115 students have got multiple job offers this year. Last year, 104 companies had visited DTU during the same time period (till March 18) and made 524 offers.
The prominent companies which have visited DTU this year include Microsoft, Maruti, IOCL, GAIL, Sony, Yahoo, C-Dot, Nestle, JP Morgan, L&T, Tata Motors, Google, TCS and NTPC, among many others. The largest number of recruiters, in last few years, are from IT and software sector, followed by Automobile and allied engineering, Civil and Construction, and Polymers and Chemicals. The emerging sectors where hiring’s are taking place are Knowledge Process Outsourcing and Business Analysis, with companies like Deloitte, Goldman Sachs and Mckinsey & Co. hiring students. There is also an increase in demand in the Construction industry with companies like Bector, Punj & Lloyd, Larsen & Turbo, Ansal construction (this year), GS Construction, among others, recruiting DTU students in good numbers.
The highest pay package offered so far for this year is 11.8 LPA from PGCIL, which has made 4 job offers. The average pay package so far is also slightly better than last year at over 6 LPA. With recession blues getting over, it is expected that the overall pay package will increase by 10% from last year. It has also been observed that companies are now hiring people in larger numbers than previous years, for example, Deloitte has made 33 job offers, Evalue Serve has made 27 job offers and BHEL has made 25 offers, among others, this year.
The placements for the first graduating batch of MBA students at DTU have also started from this year. Total 22 students of MBA have been made job offers so far by seven companies, with highest salary offered at Rs 9 LPA + allowance. Speaking about the placement boom at the University, Prof. P. B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, DTU, remarked, “DTU prepares students beyond structured curriculum by encouraging industry interface at various levels through guest lectures, industrial visits and project work, which bridges the gap between graduating engineers and professional engineers and makes our students job-ready.”
