  • PM Modi holds talks with King of Bahrain; Conferred “The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance award”

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Manama on various bilateral and regional issues.

    The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the friendship between India and Bahrain, with a focus on business relations and cultural exchange.

    Mr Modi also held a meeting with his Bahraini counterpart Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa. The two countries signed a string of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields culture, space, solar energy and RuPay card. This was disclosed by Secretary (Economic Relations in External Affairs Ministry) TS Tirumurti.

    Mr Modi’s visit to Bahrain is significant as it is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country. Mr Modi was also honoured with “The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance.” Expressing his gratitude for this unique gesture, Prime Minister said, it is an honour for entire India and a symbol of the close and friendly relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and India. Mr Modi also addressed an Indian community event at the Bahrain National Stadium.

    Today, Prime Minister will witness the formal beginning of the re-development of Shreenathji temple, the oldest in the Gulf region. Mr. Modi arrived in Manama on the third leg of his three-nation tour to France, the UAE and Bahrain. He was received at the airport by Prince Khalifa.

    Prime Minister Modi arrived in Bahrain after wrapping up his visit to the UAE where he held talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and discussed measures to improve trade and cultural ties between the two countries.
