    The India Meteorological Department has issued an warning that there is a possibility of extreme to very heavy rain in Kerala for the next four days. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has been forecast due to depression that is likely to form near Sri Lanka southeast of the Arabian Sea by tomorrow.

    Our correspondent reports that Red has been issued in Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad districts and orange in Pathanamthitta and yellow in many other districts. Gusty wind is predicted in the coastal areas and landslides and mudslides also are likely occur in hilly areas. The district collectors have been directed to open relief camps in such places.It is predicted that the depression will intensify by Sunday and will turn into a cyclone on Monday.

    The state disaster management authority has decided to take necessary precautions and to warn the public. The central forces are asked to get ready fast. Five additional teams of NDRF will be deployed in Kerala in view of the situation. The chief minister also asked people to avoid travel during night, especially in the hilly areas.  With the depression intensifying, the coastal areas would witness strong winds and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea between Saturday to Monday.
