Powerful bomb blast in Manipur’s Imphal, suspected foreign trained woman rebel arrested

 Guwahati: Security forces and Manipur Police have arrested a girl suspected to be a foreign-trained militant from a hideout in Pundongbam Lamkhai in Imphal East district. Based on specific intelligence inputs provided by the 16 Assam Rifles Battalion and central reserve police forces, the women police of Porompat police station and the Special Commando Unit deployed at Khabisoi are under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Th Krishnatombi, police said.

The Manipur police in Imphal East district arrested the self-styled corporal of the valley-based underground outfit around 10 am. Based on the input given by him after interrogation, the police found that Naobi had undergone basic military training at a base camp in Myanmar. She is working under a self-styled captain Medam Panthoi.However, a cadre of the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was caught in an operation in the southern part of the state and later handed over to manipur police for further necessary action.

The Fundrei Battalion, under the aegis of the Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) in collaboration with Manipur Police, apprehended the UNLF cadre from a hideout at Umathel Bazar, Vaikhong in Kaking district on Tuesday. Based on specific intelligence inputs received regarding the presence of suspected UNALF cadre at Umathel Bazar, Waikhong in Kakching district in the southern part of the state, a joint operation was launched by the commando representative of Phundarei Battalion and Vaikhong Police Station, resulting in apprehension of the people. On the other hand, a powerful bomb exploded at Nagampal Kangjabi Laikangbam Leikai in Imphal, Manipur. Police said no one was injured in the blast, which took place around midnight as no one was in the area at that time.
