“As global leaders in the employee benefits pre-paid business, we hope the government makes some real inroads into the employee benefits space—especially for the middle income group—with a sizeable increase in the daily meal allowance which has remained stagnant at Rs.50 for almost 16 years now. Various Governments across the 42 countries we are present in have used this effectively as an engagement tool and also as a social welfare solution to raise the health quotient of the working class. It is important that the Government of India seriously looks at increasing this amount to at least Rs.200 per meal in line with inflation figures. This need has become much more relevant today given the effects of demonetization and the need to have a healthy meal at work. After our shift to electronic meal cards in 2014, we have seen a massive increase in demand from corporates thanks to simplified logistics and the ability to provide a healthy meal at work using a digital solution.”
