  • President Ram Nath Kovind to attend 3rd convocation ceremony of Central University of Gujarat this evening

    President Ramnath Kovind has reached Gujarat on a two day visit to the state. He was received by the Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel among others at the Ahmedabad Airport on his arrival. During his two day visit, the President  will grace the third convocation ceremony of the Central University of Gujarat at Gandhinagar later today.The Central University of Gujarat was established by the Parliament through the Central Universities Act -2009. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will also attend the convocation ceremony. A total of 244 degrees will be conferred to the graduating students during the convocation which includes 73 Ph d degrees, 26 M Phil degrees.

    President Kovind will also inaugurate the world’s largest newly built Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad tomorrow. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also remain present on this occasion.

    President Kovind is expected to watch the third cricket test match between India and England with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah soon after the inauguration ceremony.

    AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that the world’s largest Cricket Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad is all set to make history by hosting the first day-night pink ball test match between India and England from tomorrow.  

    Despite the Covid19 pandemic and only 50 percent spectators to be allowed inside the stadium, the people of Ahmedabad are very enthusiastic to watch the cricketing action at the world’s largest Cricket stadium. The newly constructed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium popularly known as the world’s largest Motera Cricket Stadium has a capacity to accommodate 1 lakh 10 thousand spectators. The Motera stadium- that spreads across over 64 acres of land has three entrances. It has 76 air-conditioned corporate boxes with a seating capacity of 25 each. An Olympic-size swimming pool and four dressing rooms, a parking area that can accommodate around 3000 cars and 10000 two-wheelers. The stadium also has a clubhouse with 55 rooms, gymnasium, indoor practice pitches and food courts. Instead of flood lights, LED lights have been installed on the roof of Motera stadium. The newly built Motera stadium which is yet to be inaugurated had hosted the iconic event addressing the U.S. President Donald Trump- “Namaste Trump” in February 2020. According to the sources, the proposal for a new Stadium with a larger capacity was initiated by Shri Narendra Modi, when he was president of the Gujarat Cricket Association and the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
