  • Protesters stormed streets of Jorhat over Citizenship Bill

    Jorhat : Members from 70 organizations stormed and rocked the streets of Jorhat that leads to the Deputy Commissioner’s office protesting over scarping of the Citizenship (amendment) Bill-2016 which the Centre is supposed to place the Bill at the Rajya Sabha following which hundreds and hundreds of protesters came out to the main thoroughfare shouting slogans and shouting that by any means and any how the people of Assam will not tolerate the introduction of the Bill which will be a big threat to the indigenous tribe and people of Assam and will keep no rest if the central government happens to do the same.

    During the protest meet it was also decided to boycott programs of the BJP and AGP ministers who is [laying the role of Badan Borphukan for their vested interest and they along with the central Government has been treating the people of Assam in a different way which is more than a step motherly attitude who is not at all Assamese citizen to represent the people of Assam, said Horin Mahanta, a social activist cum legal adviser from the state here today.

    Organizations like AGP, CPI(M), AJYCP, AJP, AASU, Law Union, Law Association, Bar Association, Tai Ahom Students Union, Tea Trobe Association, Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Nagorik Moncha, Press Club of Jorhat, Journalist Union, Trade Union, Upper Assam Chambers of Commerce, Asom Sahitya Sabha, Tai Sab etc were prominent organization to have taken part during the day long protest which will further assist all the organizations not to allow for such an attitude of the Centre to happen, said Ritul Pathak, president of Jorhat unit of AJYCP.
