  • PV Sindhu, K Srikanth advance to pre-quarterfinals of Indonesia Open

    Ace Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth today advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open Badminton tournament at Jakarta. In Women’s Singles, Sindhu, seeded fifth, came back from a game behind to beat Japan’s Aya Ohori, 11-21, 21-15, 21-15.

    In Men’s Singles, eighth placed Srikanth defeated another Japanese Kenta Nishimoto in straight games, 21-14, 21-13. B. Sai Praneeth, however, bowed out after losing to Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong, 15-21, 21-13, 10-21. In another match, HS Prannoy dished out a good performance but could not get past China’s second seed Shi Yu Qi, losing 21-19 18-21 20-22.

    The Mixed Doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy also fought hard before going down 13-21, 11-21 to Indonesian pair Tontowi Ahmad and Winny Oktavina Kandow. Duo of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy will be seen in action against Taiwan’s Ching Heng Su and Min Chun Liao. The match will begin at 7 PM Indian Standard Time.
