    Published on November 17, 2010

Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday assured a village headwoman that he would fix a meeting for her with Sonia Gandhi to take up the killing of her husband during the panchayat polls and took her mobile number with a promise to call back.

Continuing with his meeet the masses programme, the AICC general secretary also counselled Kamla Devi, who was elected the village head during the recent polls, to move court if she wanted the CBI to probe her husband’s killing.

During a visit to Majwara village in Sultanpur district near his parliamentary constituency Amethi, Rahul gave a patient hearing to the villagers who alleged that Kamla’s husband Ram Kumar Yadav was killed by a BSP MLA and his brother last month during the panchayat polls.

Rahul is on a three-day tour to his constituency which concludes on Wednesday.

When Kamla expressed her desire to meet his mother and Congress Chief to seek a CBI probe into her husband’s death, Rahul personally took down her mobile phone number and assured her that he would keep her informed after fixing the meeting.

While interacting with Rahul, the villagers alleged that the state government was shielding the BSP MLA allegedly responsible for Yadav’s death and had also given him a clean chit.

“I do not have hope from the state government, which has given clean chit to the accused MLA,” Kamla told Rahul while the women gathered around him said that due to a threat to their lives, Kamla’s three children, all below 12 years of age, could not go to school.

Promising all help to Kamla and her family in future, he said that she should move court, which has the authority to order a CBI probe.

In front of his home crowd, Rahul also displayed his shooting skills.

Rahul turned shooter and hit the bull’s eye while trying his hand at the gun during a prize distribution function of an inter-college competition at Baldev Singh Bhale Sultan P G College in Haliyapur.

On the request of participants and students, the Congress general secretary picked up an air rifle and hit the bull’s eye in his first attempt amid thunderous applause.

Rahul also tried his hand at volleyball.

Later, he distributed prizes among winning participants, party workers said.

Earlier, taking time out of his busy schedule, the Amethi MP visited A H Intermediate College at Musafirkhana for the closing ceremony of Pandit Anand Prakash Mishra memorial volleyball competition.

During his half-an-hour stay, the young leader not only watched the final match but also jumped into the arena deftly tackling a service.

Rahul also visited the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Amethi to get a dental check-up.

He drove to the hospital with his associates and got his tooth examined by dentists at the OPD.

He also got an X-ray of his tooth at the hospital’s X-ray department before visiting the dentists, hospital sources said.
