Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said the Congress-DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu is a sinking ship as many leaders of the two parties are either facing serious charges of corruption or under bail.

Addressing a political rally in favour of NDA candidate at Perambalur in Tamil Nadu yesterday, he said the Congress-DMK alliance is an embodiment of corruption. He said the recent Indian attack on Pakistani targets were only against terror infrastructure and not against the sovereignty of the neighbouring nation.

Later, addressing a rally in Madurai, Mr Rajnath Singh said India is emerging as the world’s third most powerful economy under Narendra Modi Government. He expressed hope that Mr Modi will come back to power with a landslide victory.

Meanwhile, CPI leader Sudhakar Reddy told reporters in Coimbatore yesterday, the ruling AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu has been forced to be subservient to the BJP, by using central agencies.

He expressed hope, all parties that are opposed to the BJP will come under a single umbrella at the national level after the Parliament elections. He said the BJP-led government tries to appropriate the reputation of Defence Forces for its own political mileage.
The AIADMK Joint Coordinator and state Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy have said the government led by his party gives high priority to women’s safety.

Addressing a road show in Pollachi, where a major sex scandal has allegedly taken place rattling the state political scene, he said DMK tries to take political mileage though the case has been handed over to CBI.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief KS Alagiri said in an election rally at Tuticorin that the BJP-led central government has lost moral ground to claim that it can safeguard the country’s security, as it had stated before the apex court that military documents had gone missing from Defence Ministry.

CPI (M) state secretary Balakrishnan charged the AIADMK of trying to influence voters through money power, as it could not earn the goodwill of the public with its performance.

On the sidelines of his campaign in Dharmapuri, he told reporters that the Income Tax machinery is being selectively directed against opposition leaders in the state.

Meanwhile, the opposition DMK has complained to the Election Commission that postal ballots and Election Duty Certificates are not being given to all Government Servants and Teachers who are engaged in Election Duty.

In a complaint, the party has said the Returning Officers must be instructed to provide ballot papers for postal votes and the certificate immediately to ensure cent per cent electoral participation.
