Rajya Sabha has been adjourned for one hour till 11:05 AM as a mark of respect to legendary singer and former member of the House Lata Mangeshkar who passed away yesterday. When the House met this morning, it paid tribute to Lata Mangeshkar by observing silence.
Making an obituary reference, Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said, the nation has lost a legendary singer and her passing away created an irreparable void in the world of music. He described her as a compassionate human being and a towering personality in the field of Indian music and film industry.
Mr. Naidu said, she sung over 25 thousand songs in her career spanning over seven decades. He said, through her songs, she captured every mood, moment and journey of nation. He said, Lata Mangeshkar’s singing prowess was as diverse as our country.
