  • Ramnarain Ruia College to organize National Seminar on ‘Sustainable Crop Productivity Through Physiological Intervention’

    Mumbai: The Department of Life Science, Ramnarain Ruia College is celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of the college by jointly organizing a national seminar on ‘Sustainable Crop Productivity through Physiological Intervention’ from November 24-26, 2011 at its Matunga Campus in partnership with the Indian Society for Plant Physiology, Pusa, New Delhi.

    The three day programme will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. Rajan M. Welukar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai, and the Guest of Honour, Dr. S. K. Dutta, Deputy Director General, Crop Science, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and President of Indian Society for Plant Physiology, New Delhi.

    The seminar will help raise awareness among senior scientists, farmers, young scientists, students and general public to be more competitive and quality conscious about food security in the era of globalization. The seminar will have concurrent technical sessions on issues concerning Plant Productivity and Crop Modeling, Plant Mineral Nutrition, Micro Irrigation and Phytoremediation, Abiotic Stresses Management, Gene Expression, Biotechnology and Germplasm Conservation, Sustainable Agriculture in relation to Global climate Change, Plant Growth Regulators/Agrochemicals and their Applications. Post Harvest Physiology of Perishables, Biotic Stress, Genomics, Proteomics and Metabolomics, Physiology of Plantation, Horticultural crops and Medicinal Plants, Natural Resources Management, Biodiversity and Pharmacognosy will also be discussed.  The progamme also includes lectures and presentations to discuss the issues of plant physiology, challenges to crop productivity, dwindling interest in agriculture as a profession and a poster making competition.

    The seminar is supported and sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Limited (Mahyco), IMT Technologies, Monsanto, HiMedia, Thermofisher and others.
