Bangalore : Today, Professor Henry Mintzberg, one of world’s foremost
Ranked by The Wall Street Journal as one of the world’s top 10 Most Influential Management Thinkers, Professor Mintzberg stressed that, “the health of the society lies in how well it is able to self-organise and the key to this lies in the plural sector (a combination of social initiatives, communities, unions, member-owned and non-owned bodies).” Tightly formed communities that not just circumvent problems but confront them are fundamental in keeping the public and private sectors in check.
In order to highlight imbalances in today’s society, Professor Mintzberg pointed out that, “while corporate social responsibility is a fine idea, it does not adequately address corporate social irresponsibility.” Another example that hit home was Mintzberg’s thoughts on private pharmaceuticals vying for patents on herbs that were grown in the backyards of Indian homes for centuries and used for medicinal purposes.
Professor Mintzberg’s long standing relationship with IIMB goes back to 1995
“Ever since 1995, I have commuted from the Bangalore Airport to the IIMB campus and it is hard to miss all the changes that constantly take place. I realise that India is a work-in-progress and this just doesn’t relate to physical change. One cannot underestimate this country’s capacity for socio-economic change that can occur by gradually rebalancing society through regulation,” shared Professor Henry Mintzberg.
Organized by the students of the EPGP, IIMB’s one-year full-time residential programme for experienced professionals, the Seminar Series provides a platform for the students to engage with eminent personalities. These informal sessions facilitate the exchange of ideas and broaden the horizons for students when it comes to understanding management and leadership.
The seminar session was attended by a large audience comprising professionals, faculty members and students of IIMB.
