  • Rescue & relief operations going on in flood affected areas of Tripura & Assam

    The National Disaster Response Force , NDRF, said over 3,600 people have been rescued from the flood-affected regions of Tripura and Assam.

    A spokesperson of the NDRF said in New Delhi on Friday that ten teams of the central relief and rescue force have been deployed to tackle the flood situation in Tripura. The teams have evacuated more than 3,400 people in the state so far, and relief and rescue operations are continuing.

    The flood situation is gradually improving in Tripura. However, MeT Department Officials told   that there may be rain and thundershower across the state in next 24 hours.

    Our correspondent reports, the state emergency operation centre officials told  that more than 8800 families have taken shelter in around 173 relief camps. The rivers Howrah, Gomati, Dhalai and Manu are flowing at danger level.

    On Friday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited Kailasahar of Unakoti district and reviewed the situation.

    Talking to media in Kailasahar, Mr. Deb said that his government is working proactively for flood victims.

    Similarly in Assam, the spokesperson said, 235 people have been evacuated to safer places in view of the water logging situation in many areas.

    The flood situation in Assam deteriorated drastically with nearly four lakh people affected across seven districts of the state.

    Nearly 67 thousand people have taken shelter at temporary relief camps. Relief materials are being distributed at flood hit areas by the district administrations. Flood water also disrupted road communication at many places.

    Meanwhile, three Mi 17 helicopters of Indian Air Force undertook relief operation in flood affected areas of Tripura, particularly in the town of Kailashahar.

    Defence Ministry in a release said yesterday, the helicopters are operating from Radhanagar helipad located about nine kilometers from Kailashahar and 4.1 tons of food and other essential supplies were delivered to the affected people in the area.
