Haflong : Though the railway authority has been stick to ‘Safety, security and Punctuality’ as it’s popular slogan but has failed to provide safety and security to its passengers as the cases of snatching and pick pocketing in Lumding –Badarpur section on sharp rise.

People alleged that during last fortnight a gang of four to five pick pocketers has created nightmare among the passengers travelling in Lumding – Badarpur particularly by the Guwahati – Silchar fast passenger.

The members of the infamous pick pocketing gang targets the Chair car mostly and create artificial crowd and materialize their heinous crime and vanish with the loot. Thereafter they throw the money bag out of train keeping the money with them.

Yesterday only, at least four persons were the victim of such gang and their important documents like Driving license, Voter I D, ATM cards etc. kept in the money bags were lost.

Though there have been Government Reserve Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) stationed at New Haflong Station to provide safety security for the passengers but it is found they are quite ignorant about the sufferings of the passengers and remain busy otherwise. More over lack of coordination among these two agencies is also another aspect to be concerned. When the victims approach the GRP, they say, they are not concern about the incident happened inside the train and when RPF is approached they say you better approach the GRP as they deal with the Law and order. Now people are confused whom to approach for the redress of their grievances, they argued.

The people of Dima Hasao without having such experience of snatchings, pick pocketing are always becoming the victims of such incidents.

Therefore it is pertinent to mention here the people of Dima Hasao should take serious note of such incidents and remain safe while they travel by trains since the railway journeys are not safe and secure as it were early days.
