S Africa public workers strike on

Public sector workers in South Africa are continued their strike for the third day with no progress in talks with the Government on pay scales. Hospitals have been badly affected and volunteers have been called in to replace the striking staff.

After a day of running battles with the police on Friday, soldiers were deployed inside many public hospitals. The employees’ unions are sticking to their demand of 8.6 per cent rise in pay but the Government is adamant on 7 per cent.
