Mumbai :  Sahara Star- the five star property in Mumbai organized a blood donation drive on August 19th and 20th  at  Oyster in association with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Mandir, which is a registered charitable organization located at Bandra affiliated to the State Blood Transfusion Council (S.B.T.C.). Huge number of donors participated in the drive and made it one of the most successful blood donations drives in town. Hotel staff also joined hands and donated blood for serious health disease like Thallasemia.

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Mandir has been operational since the last 53 years in diverse but socially relevant fields with the sole purpose of serving underprivileged sections of society. One of their areas of unparalleled expertise is Blood Banking, an enormously difficult task given the constant shortage as against an unending demand of blood even in a metropolitan city like Mumbai. They have also been designated as R.B.T.C.by state blood transfusion council thereby having an extra responsibility of collection and issue of blood and blood components to all needy patients.

This trust has initiated a Thallasemia foundation wherein they have adopted 50 Thallasemic Major children. Thallasemia is a genetic disorder causing defective Hemoglobin synthesis. These patients generally require regular and repeated Blood Transfusions, even upto two bottles of Blood per month just to counter this defect. This is extremely difficult for the poor souls, given the formidable expenditure incurred for such consistent transfusions as well as everlasting dearth of Blood. Hence they have a short life span depriving them of their primary right to live. They provide all the Blood they require on a regular basis absolutely FREE of cost for LIFE.

The blood donated by Team Sahara Star will be used for this cause. Anybody between the age group of 18 to 60 can donate blood and he should weigh above 45 kgs.
