New Delhi: The art world united in celebration as the Sanjeev Sinha Foundation hosted the private opening of Buoyant Iconic Depth, a landmark exhibition at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre. Curated by Els Reijnders (Director Foundation for Indian Artist) and Dianne Hagen (Visual artist from the Netherlands), the exhibition showcases a selection of Sanjeev Sinha’s profound works from 2013–2020, offering visitors a rare glimpse into his artistic genius.
Spanning 45 paintings, drawings, and 14 sculptures, Buoyant Iconic Depth embodies Sinha’s unique ability to weave personal sincerity with universal themes. The works explore peace, spirituality, and society, creating multi-layered narratives that transcend the visual medium. “Sanjeev’’s art offers not just beauty but a deeper philosophical refuge,” said Dianne Hagen, reflecting on the exhibition’s evocative impact.
The opening was attended by prominent figures from the art world, including Mr. Anjani Kumar Singh, Director of the Bihar Museum, who shared fond memories of his association with Sanjeev. Renowned poet and literary-cultural critic Mr. Ashok Vajpeyi, who will also participate in a panel discussion on contemporary art on November 23, praised Sinha’s contributions to the evolving Indian art narrative. Mr. Sanjiv Kumar from Takshila also attended, lending his support to the Foundation’s vision.
The event’s emotional highlight was a heartfelt introduction by Abhigya Sagar, nephew of Sanjeev Sinha and Director of the Foundation. Abhigya shared how the family came together after Sinha’s passing to preserve his legacy and fulfill his vision. “This exhibition was a dream that my uncle envisioned before his passing. It is a celebration of his unparalleled talent and a promise to continue sharing his vision with the world,” Abhigya said, emphasizing the familial commitment behind the Foundation’s work.
The curators, Els Reijnders and Dianne Hagen, elaborated on Sinha’s artistic evolution. Els, who has worked with Sinha since 1993 through her Amsterdam-based gallery, provided rare insights into the artist’s creative journey. The evening also featured a video interview with Sinha from 1993and an “over the years” slideshow of Sinha at work, adding a poignant connection to his earlier years.
Adding another layer to the event was the launch of a commemorative book designed by Dianne Hagen, featuring contributions by notable critics Meera Menezes, Willem Baars, and Els Reijnders. The book chronicles Sinha’s artistic journey and offers an intimate look at his contributions to modern art.
Supported by The Raza Foundation, Takshila, and Mediverse Hospital, this landmark exhibition will be open to the public from November 20–26, 2024, offering visitors a chance to engage with Sinha’s timeless artistry.
