Sensex gains 57 points in early trade

Mumbai : The BSE benchmark index Sensex recovered by nearly 57 points in early trade on Thursday on selective buying by funds.

The 30-share index, which had lost 283.36 points in Wednesday’s session, recovered by 56.79 points, or 0.31 per cent to 18,202.04 points.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index moved up by 12.80 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 5,518.15.

Brokers said besides selective buying by funds, covering-up of pending short positions by speculators on the last session of current month expiry in the derivatives segment, helped stocks to trade in the positive zone.

Stocks of IT and fast moving consumer goods sectors were in good demand, supporting the Sensex.
