  • Sensex slips after crossing 20k on profit-booking

    Published on September 21, 2010

The BSE benchmark Sensex pared some of the gains and slipped 45 points after topping the 20,000 mark in the morning trade on Tuesday, as investors locked-in gains at higher levels. The BSE 30-share index slipped below the 20,000 points mark to trade 45.22 points down at 19,860.88 in the late morning trade after participants booked profits in heavy-weight stocks. The sensex had crossed the 20,000-points level to touch 20,088.96 in the early trade, for the first time since January 2008. The wide-based National Stock Exchange also failed to sustain the 6,000 points mark and traded 18.60 points down at 5,961.85. Analysts said emergence of profit-booking by funds as well as retail investors mainly reversed the early gains.
