Extending its winning streak for the seventh straight session, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex gained 138 points on Wednesday in opening trade on sustained capital inflows from foreign funds.

Led by oil and gas and IT stocks, the 30-share index shot up by 138.57 points, or 0.72 per cent, in opening trade to 19,485.53 points, a fresh 32-month high.

In a similar fashion, the broad-based National Stock Exchange’s Nifty also spurted by 43.55 points to 5,839.10, an increase of 0.75 per cent.

Brokers attributed the bullish investor sentiment to steady inflows of capital from foreign funds keen to cash in on India’s robust economy.

All the sectoral indices, led by oil and gas, IT and banking, were trading in positive terrain, registering gains up to 1.22 per cent.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up by 0.29 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei shed 0.60 per cent in early trade.
