Mumbai:   Peter Mukharjea’s judicial custody was extended till January 25 by a magistrate court in Mumbai today. Mukharjee,  an accused in Sheena Bora murder case,  was produced in the court as his custody ended.  On request of Peter’s lawyer, court allowed him and Peter’s family to meet Peter for a brief period of 10 minutes just outside the court room. The court had, on December 28, extended Mukerjea’s custody till today after CBI’s advocate sought extension saying that the investigation is in the crucial stage.

In another development on January 5, a special CBI court had directed the central investigating agency to file its reply on the bail application filed by Mukerjea by January 16. Peter, husband of prime accused Indrani Mukerjea, was arrested on November 19 for his alleged role in the murder case and was in CBI custody for two weeks following which he was granted judicial remand. He has been kept at the high-security Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, where other two accused in the case are also lodged.
