Shuttler PV Sindhu meets PM Modi, Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi

Shuttler P V Sindhu who recently won gold medal at the BWF World Championships in Switzerland, today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Sindhu is India’s pride, a champion who has brought home a Gold and lots of glory. The Prime Minister congratulated her and wished her best for her future endeavours. Ms Sindhu also met Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. Earlier, India’s first badminton world champion P V Sindhu was welcomed exuberantly on her return to the country last night.

The Olympic silver-medallist, who out-played Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday, was mobbed at the airport after she touched down with national coach Pullela Gopichand by her side.

Despite the hectic schedule, the 24-year-old had a smile on her face as she acknowledged supporters and the media at the airport. In response to a barrage of questions that were thrown at her, the World Champion said, It was a much-awaited win and she is very happy.

The five-time world medallist had tears in her eyes when the national anthem played. She had claimed silvers in the past two editions, besides a couple of bronze medals earlier.
